March Madness

March seems to be full of madness every year...and not just for basketball. So many activities and fun things happen in the month of March!

We started the month out by celebrating Dr. Seuss at school. Zeb has never been too interested in participating in spirit weeks activities, but Abby is all for it!
Super cute Thing 1 in our opinion! They had several fun days at school (bring a favorite book to share with the class, special guests reading books in classrooms, fun games and activities, and more!) We love to read, and therefore love celebrating Dr. Seuss week. We might have also snuck in a few viewings of Dr. Seuss movies as well in our "spare" time.

Zeb is turning into quite the little chef! He loves to try new things in the kitchen and has excelled at his favorites (German pancakes, scrambled eggs, mac and cheese, French toast).
He's still working on the logistics for grilled cheese sandwiches. He was instructed to butter both sides of his bread slices...and he literally buttered the sides. Hahaha! Teaching young ones to cook has reminded us how very, very specific directions need to be.

Abby continues to amaze and astound us with her fashion choices. She is all about her accessories (and sometimes my accessories) and wearing what she likes her friends will like.
Heaven help us if we can't convince her soon to dress for herself (within our family rules guidelines) and not worry about what anyone else has to say about her choices.

While the big kids are at school, we get to play! The monthly playgroup at our community clubhouse was a bubble show in March. The bubble show is always one of our favorites.
Maggie loves to be inside the bubbles. Lizzie was brave and came inside the bubble while I was holding her, so she's made progress! The first time we went to the bubble show, Liz wouldn't even go near the buckets.

Oliver is getting into the "get into everything" stage of life. He loves to make messes and hates the vacuum cleaner. He is still a tiny little thing (not quite on the growth charts) barely wearing size 3-6 month clothes even though he is 7 months old.
The other children love to take pictures of anything and everything to do with Oliver. We have so many random pictures every day. We still haven't figured out a way to keep our phones out of the hands our children. If you have a secret, please share.

Cutest little superhero you ever did see.

We love going out for family hikes! We are surrounded by hills and mountains that are perfect for our family stage.
Makes for a fantastic FHE activity, fun family jaunt, last minute exercise...whatever and whenever it just happens to work out.

I honestly can't remember why this picture was taken...or why it was selected as "blog worthy". Let's just say that anything with Little Blue Eyes is adorable and can't be passed up.
Yep. That's what we're going with.

Right around Christmas time (2017), we got a letter from our HOA letting us know the we had 90 days to paint the exterior of our home. Nice timing. Awesome. We figured...Bryan knows how to do this (thanks to a summer internship running an exterior painting company one year during his collegiate years) so we'll save a few thousand dollars and just do it ourselves. Months later (weather conspired against us - every single weekend was either raining or windy) and we finally got to work.
This picture says way more than you would think. It shows that a family can work together and still keep smiles on their faces. It shows that it was actually cold enough to wear a jacket in March. But most of all, it shows that I can do hard things. Namely, climb a ladder several times to get on the roof and help tape and paint. I have developed a fear of heights that seems to get worse the older I get, but it's nice to remember that I can conquer my fears for a worthy cause. **Note to self** It's not always worth saving the money when it takes so much time to accomplish a task that others do for a living.

We love to see our children doing activities together peacefully. Whether it is playing musical chairs, riding bikes, sleeping (you know that had to be listed, because that is occasionally the only peaceful thing they do some days), or coloring.
It's also fun to see their personalities come through in their projects. Some are interested in the details. Some are interested in finishing first. Some are just interested in the process. Such variety is incredible.

Brotherly love?
These two have a special bond in spite of the age difference. Zebediah is a wonderful big brother (to his sisters as well, but especially to his brother) and it shows. Oliver lights up when he sees his big brother coming to play with him. He reaches for hugs when Zeb comes home from school. Nobody can seem to get Ollie giggles quite like Zeb. Melts my heart!

Zeb learned all about Spanish Missions as part of their state studies in 4th grade. They learned about all the missions in California...then got to create their own. They drew blueprints for the mission, wrote a history about how and why it was built, wrote how the people thrived (or didn't thrive), and more.
We got to see all his hard work displayed during the annual school Open House night.

Zeb also got to show us his dissected squid. Contrary to his face in the picture, he quite enjoyed dissecting and is excited to do it again in the future.
Could this be a clue for a future profession? Only time will tell. He is currently sticking with inventor/scientist.

Abigail got to show us her amazing art skills with several different classroom projects. She is very much into the details.
According to her teacher, she was typically one of the last to finish and would only stop because they were most definitely out of time. I was never surprised to hear that piece of information.

Learning all about the life phases of butterflies.
Isn't it miraculous how life works?! Something so delicate as a butterfly must also be incredibly sturdy to survive through each stage in the process. Sound a bit familiar? Making it through this life with any semblance of joy is a miracle in my opinion, and I see it happening in our family every day. Well, maybe not every day. The struggle is real and there are some days where I don't see the joy until looking back. But it's there. Like I said...miraculous. I pretty much love believing in miracles. Don't you?

Someone was trying to walk in March. He loved to grab onto anything handy (and wasn't too particular about what it was...be it a couch, chair, leg, sister's hair...) and move along. We thought for sure he would be walking independently by 9 months old.
Cutie patootie!
