Life has been only slightly crazy this past week. We had some special visitors (Gma and Gpa Downs), special occasions (Bryan graduating from BYU with a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Accounting), special activities (Bryan, Alison and Zeb going for a 4-mile run on the Provo River Trail)...I think you get the idea that this has been a pretty special time in our lives.
Not to prioritize the events, but one in particular has more meaning than the others. Probably because it has been the longest work-in-progress that we have worked on during our married life together. It will most likely also have the biggest impact on our future as a family. That's right, running 4 miles in the canyon tops the list. Let me tell you, it doesn't really look like a hill but once you start going on the trail there is no question that it is definitely uphill the entire way! Atleast we only had to go 2 miles up and could come down for the remaining 2 miles (Alison was pretty much dying by the time we got to the 2 mile marker). Who says we won't be ready for the Mud Run in June?
In all seriousness, the graduation process took up most of our time this past week. Bryan took his very last final exam of his life (hopefully...unless he decides sometime down the road to earn a PhD) on Monday and spent the rest of the week playing with Zeb and preparing for the "big day" on Thursday and Friday. Thursday evening was amazing. There were 2 Commencement speakers, both of them General Authorities. Elder Russell M. Nelson was the first speaker, followed by President Dieter F. Uchtdorf. President Uchtdorf was awarded an honorary doctorate degree as well. Of course, they both gave excellent advice for those graduating during these tumultuous times (and great advice for the rest of us as well!). Friday afternoon we gathered for a family lunch to celebrate Bryan's success. That evening (that's right...the convocation didn't start until 5:00 pm) we spent another few hours sitting in the Marriott Center. The speakers were interesting, one of whom is a Fraud Expert. He spoke on staying true to the standards of BYU no matter the price...terrific advice! Next came the long part. Bryan was probably the 40th person to walk across the stage to receive his diploma...only 1100 more to go! The Marriott School of Management is the largest department at BYU, with 16% of the total university graduates receiving undergraduate degrees and 9% receive graduate degrees. Lucky us...getting to witness that!
