A Small Taste of Summer

At the request of many...okay, not that many...here's the best ice cream recipe you could ever hope to find. It is a favorite tradition in my family - right up there with family BBQ's and trips to the cabin in Scofield. You know, the traditions that you do as often as possible. Anyway, as I was saying before, this recipe is quite literally the best so here goes... You will need:
  • 1 ice cream machine (this recipe makes 4 quarts)
  • 2 -7 lb bags of crushed ice
  • rock salt
Ingredients:
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 4 cups fruit puree (our personal favorite is peach, using frozen peaches from canning season)
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp salt
Directions: Chill ice cream machine canister by filling with cold water (tap water is just fine). In a large bowl, beat eggs thoroughly. Gradually add sugar and mix until stiff (3-5 minutes). Add other ingredients and mix well. Empty the water from the canister. Fill the canister with mix and place in machine. In the machine, add 2 inches of ice and 3 heaping Tbsp of rock salt. Alternate layers of ice and rock salt until the bucket is full. Turn on the machine and watch the magic happen! Don't forget to keep adding more ice/rock salt as it will gradually melt. Depending on your machine, the ice cream should be ready anytime between 20-40 minutes of mixing. Once the desired consistency has been reached, empty any excess water from the bucket and allow the ice cream to set for about 20-30 minutes. Enjoy the perfect Summer treat!! (If you happen to have any left over...just give us a call! We'll be more than happy to help you eat it up!)

Thanks Alison! I was hoping you wouldn't forget to post this recipe :)

We are totally going to go nuts with this! BTW, how fine do you puree your fruit? If I remember correctly, you had some chunks of peaches peeking out. Did you add those separately from the puree? Wish us luck. (You make it sound so easy, but I'm just a touch nervous . . . .)
