Rose Parade 2012

This year we were invited by some friends to celebrate New Year's Day at the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena. We had never been...and were so excited to go! Our friends go every year and have a tried-and-true strategy. The men go very early in the morning (they left at 4:30 this year) and set out all the chairs. The women and children arrive about 30 minutes before the parade starts and we all enjoy. We set up near the last grandstand on the parade route...so we got to see most of the performances. And we got to sit in the shade! Considering that we are having a warmer-than-normal winter this year, we were grateful for the shade. Bryan was in charge of the camera and took pictures of nearly every float. I've selected a few of our favorites to share and might think about putting together an album of the rest. Maybe. Depends on how motivated I can be. On with the show...

This was the very first float to pass by...take a close look...
Yep. Kenny G giving a live performance to all the parade goers! This one's for you Mom!
The front of this float says, "When life gives you lemons..." Very cool lemonade stand if you ask us.

This fearless flyer was fully equipped, complete with rocket boosters on back...

which it needed to tow this skate board!

This is a very patriotic float...
 and the details are amazing!

This is the HGTV Dream House float. Bryan has been watching a lot of HGTV at his doctor appointments (every tv in the office is tuned to it)...and he might just like it!

Zeb and Abby loved the dragon. It blew out steam (luckily it was out of fire!) and everything.

Some people came quite the distance to march in a parade...(this one's for you Gregg!)

Or in this case dance! This band was really fun to watch as they danced and marched down the street.

 Love the elephant!

The front of this float read, "If pigs could fly..." Enough said.

Dear old AF High...

Cool experience to see the Cavemen marching...

Dinosaurs! Another big hit with our crowd.

Zeb and Daddy having a picture moment...

Abby and Mommy during one of the rare moments that Abigail held still during the entire parade! She is a certified music lover and thus was dancing almost the entire time. Any time there was a lull in the parade or an exhibit without music she just stared with a look that said, "Where's my music?!"

We had such a fun time at the parade and plan to go again next year - especially since we now know the secrets for success!
