Bits and Pieces of August

Liz has really taken to eating lately. It was touch and go for a while there, but she has finally decided that she likes food (for the most part). Her only stipulation...she gets to feed herself. She rarely lets anyone that lives in our house feed her. She's let other people...just not us.
 And this is what happens.

Licking the plate because food is so wonderful! We quickly learned that not only does she need to be buckled into her highchair (since she immediately tries to climb out and will perch precariously with her feet on the tray while leaning back against the seat) but she needs to have little to no clothing on unless I feel like pre-treating laundry. We have tried several types of bibs and she rips everything off,  or if she can't she cries until we take it off. Oh the joys. On the plus side, she's eating.

Elizabeth is a bonafide daddy's girl. She clings to him whenever she can. Including when it is time for him to leave for work in the morning.

She gives him the biggest grins and runs to him as soon as he gets home. We love our daddy!

Speaking of loving Daddy...one morning Elizabeth was so mad at me (since Daddy left instead of me) that she didn't give me a smile until we made it to the park and found swings. Swings happen to be her second love. Good thing I've learned some of her secrets. Haha!

Our community had an end-of-the-summer bash at our clubhouse. All sorts of fun things to do and play before going to the pool.
Water balloon wars! Am I the only person who had never seen these before outside of the good old game shows that were on when we were children?! They are so amazingly fun!!

Assisted trampoline jumping (not sure what it's actually called, so that's what we're going with). Most everyone (not me or Liz) gave it a shot and had a blast.

Abigail and Maggie got to "go super high"...meaning the workers lifted them up as high as the machine would go and let them just dangle and swing around for a bit. Talk about hilarious!

Bryan discovered that his equilibrium is not what it used to be. Shocker. Guess we really do get older. There was also a photo booth, bounce houses and slides, snow cones and dancing. We love these community activities!

This cuteness happened one evening during our family scripture studies. Usually, these two can find anything to fight about. Neither likes to share (it's definitely a work in progress).
 They shared the chair!

It's all fun and games until someone gets too excited and hits you in the face with a book.

This is what we girls do while Zeb is in the pool for swim team practice. We wander around the pool deck/bleachers coming up with play ideas. Some days they run (I mean walk since running isn't allowed on the deck) around the posts. Some days they walk back and forth across the bleachers (we're usually the only ones that sit on the upper deck) having fun ducking under or through the hand rails.
Some days we all have smiles. Some days not. Some days we all wear the same color. We're are just amazing like that.

Ward beach day! A day at the beach isn't complete without someone getting buried up to their neck.
Good fun with friends. Lots of time spent in the water. Dads and moms rotated having their play time  in the water (surfing, boogie boarding, jumping waves, etc.) with and without kids tagging along. Lots of time spent digging in the sand.

Lots of time eating the sand. One day our kids will outgrow this fascinating hobby.

A highlight for us was running into more of the Downs crew (who just happened to be at the same beach with their stake youth beach activity).
 Perfect day at the beach!

Maggie...what have you been up to while I was distracted doing the dishes?
 "Nothing Mom..."

"No...I didn't sneak into your room and get into your make up". Those darn chores get me every time! If only I could just put them off until the kids were sleeping...but by that point I'm ready to sleep and don't have the energy. Maybe we'll figure a method to get the kids to help with the chores. We've tried several different methods, but not one that works consistently yet. Someday.

We have so much fun while the big kids are at school. Every day is an adventure and something new. I love Maggie's imagination and creativity. She has such a fun personality.
I'm ready for my close up!

Zeb and Abby got to have a day at Knott's Berry Farm with Dad. The little ones and I were sick, so we stayed home while the others played. They had fun running around to different rides and activities and stayed out until WAY past their bedtimes.
Good memories were made and fun times were had.
