So Blessed!

Let me start this post by saying how extremely blessed we have been this week.  We were able to spend the first half of this week staying down south with Bryan's family.  They are so wonderful to keep us company while Bryan is gone!  Monday morning we got the news that Bryan's 3 week trip to Boston was cut down to only 2 weeks...which means he comes home today and doesn't have to go back!  Bryan also found out this week that he has passed his last CPA exam! We have really had so much to celebrate.  Having said that, we have also had more "adventures" with Zeb this week.  **Warning** The pictures in this post are not for those with a weak stomach (which usually includes me!).  They are not terribly graphic, but could possibly make you cringe just a little.
After receiving the wonderful news about Bryan coming home early on Monday, we went out to lunch with Gma Downs and the cousins for a play-date. On the way back to the house for nap time Zeb and I made a quick stop at the local post office.  We were there for about 1 minute when I heard a crash and Zeb started crying.  I turned to see what had happened and was instantly in tears.  Zeb had been climbing on some shelves (instead of standing in line with Mommy).  He fell and pulled an adjustable shelf down with him.  The shelf hit Zeb right between the eyes - yet another blessing that the shelf missed his eyes! A postal worker came out to help me, called Gma Downs who came to drive us to the hospital, and cleaned up the mess.  Another blessing - such a kind worker to help us through the initial trauma!  He wouldn't let me press a cloth to the wound...he kept trying to do it himself.  Zeb cried himself to sleep in the car on the way to the hospital.

After a relatively quick trip to the ER we finally made it back to the house.  Zeb is proudly sporting 6 stitches just to the right of his left eye.  He is once again such a trooper!  The only time he really notices the stitches is when he looks in a mirror.  Then he'll say, "owie" and try to pick them out.   **Side story** We are in the middle of potty training so Zeb was in his big-boy unders that day.  He stayed dry for all 3 hours at the hospital...that is right up to the point where the doctor had 2 stitches left.  He was all bundled up (arms in a pillow case then burrito wrapped to keep him still) with me holding his feet, a nurse laying on him and holding his head, and the doctor doing the dirty work.  Zeb cried out the entire time, "Mommy, my toes, my toes!".  Apparently he didn't want me holding his toes.  Anyway, when we were just about finished he said, "Mommy, pee pee!".  I told him we were just about done...just one more minute...but the poor kid just couldn't wait.  The nurse laughed it off, saying she had a spare shirt to change into.  Another blessing...friendly hospital staff.

Needless to say, we've had to cancel quite a few plans that we had this week.  Zeb is not allowed to go in the water (pool or ocean) until his stitches come out next Monday morning (fingers crossed) so we were not able to go to the pool Monday afternoon as planned.  We had to cancel a trip to the beach with Ashley, Jordan and Kimball Tuesday morning.  We canceled our plans for inviting friends over for a pool play-date Friday.  Of course this had to happen during a heat wave...so we've been doing everything we can inside this week.  **Another side note** Zeb made it longer than either of his parents before getting stitches...Bryan was 2, I was 18 months, and Zeb is 2 1/2!  We are so grateful for all the blessings we've had this summer...and especially this week!  We've certainly had some close calls with our little adventurer.

Poor Zeb! And poor you! I'm glad you had so many kind and helpful people around to help you out! Hopefully he'll get all of his adventuring out before you have the baby :) None of our kids has ever had stitches (knock on wood)! Hard to believe 10 years and 5 kids later!

I love the fact that you are seeing the blessings in all of these adventures--it makes it somewhat easier to bear that way. Poor little Zeb! I hope you guys have a big, fat boring month ahead to catch your breath!
Your little boy is so cute! My four year old had to have twelve stitches on her face last month(it was super deep so they had to stitch it in layers. gross!!) It is so horrible to hear them scream and you can't do anything to help them :( Anyways we have been rubbing Mederma on the scar and I can already tell it is helping it fade away. Hope he feels better soon.
