And the Award Goes to...

We had a very fancy weekend last week. It all started a few months ago when Bryan got assigned to a particular job. He sat in a very secure and enclosed room  - picture a typical conference room with the windows blacked out - counting ballots, or more accurately described, verifying that scan tron forms had been filled out correctly. Yes, he was on the team that verified the nominations for the Emmy's.
Last Wednesday he got an email from a supervisor asking if he would like to go to the awards show and after party for the Saturday session (the Creative Arts Emmy's - the behind-the-scene folks) that Saturday. He said, "Let me ask my wife." *Pause* Well, he asked me and then I asked my friend her opinion and she asked if she could watch our kids. There goes the excuse not to go...so prepare we did!

We got all dressed up and headed out for the Nokia Theatre in L.A. The show began at 4:00 so we arrived a little early (around 3:30)...just in time to walk the red carpet! There was a rope separating the stars from us regulars...but still...we walked the red carpet. Pretty cool!

Cameras were not allowed in the theatre so we have a few from Bryan's phone...not too shabby. If you notice the folks just in front of us - they are from the Discovery Channel show Deadliest Catch. Yep. That's us. Hob-nobbin' with the stars.
A very long 3 1/2 hours later the awards portion was finally over. Don't get us wrong, it was an incredible experience to be there, we just didn't really know anyone that was winning the awards. Except for a few; like Justin Timberlake, Gweneth Paltrow, and Harry Connick Jr. - all of whom were unable to attend. We did recognize several of the hosts, including: Pee Wee Herman, Gene Simmons and his son, the host of Survivor, Mark Burnett, the host of The Amazing Race, the young doctor from House, some kid from Glee (not sure which one since we've never seen the show), and a whole slew of others.

Next came the after party...also known as the Governor's Ball. It was incredible! The center of the room was a revolving stage with a live band. There were performers throughout the night (some of whom hung from the ceiling and did acrobatics on ropes!). **Awesome** By the way...on the short walk across the street for the ball Bryan and I did a bit of fraternizing with the stars. So excited to say that we met Adam Savage from Mythbusters (one of our absolute favorite shows on the Discovery Channel)! Yep. We are that cool.

On with the tale. The food was amazing! The water was divine! Bryan asked for something non-alcoholic and they gave him a non-alcoholic beer. Who knew there was such a thing? Anyway, he took one sip and that was it. Guess it's not the alcohol that gives beer it's taste. Moving on.
Yes, I had Bryan take a picture of the dessert...
Heaven wrapped in chocolate and gold dust of some sort.

And the "party favors" set at each place setting...more bits of heaven on a stick!

Sad to say we left the ball early (near 10:00) but we wanted to get home. I was getting a headache (not used to parties, I guess!) and Bryan was anxious to watch a certain disappointing football game. He refused to go to church the next morning without having watched it...knowing that it would be talked about. Don't tell him I told you that!

Thanks to some amazing friends who watched our kids we were able to have this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity (unless Bryan gets put back on this job next year). Definite perk of the job.
