Memorial Day Weekend

We had a very fun extended weekend this past holiday. It all started when Bryan had Friday off from work. We spend the morning and afternoon playing together as a family, then Bryan and Zeb headed out for Father's & Sons. This trip was a little different...in the fact that Bryan went without a tent. Before you think anything else...let it be known that he did it on purpose. The weather forcast was not very good (high chance of rain, windy, cold, etc.) so he planned to just put all the seats down and sleep in our van. First words out of Zeb's mouth when they pulled up to the campsite, "Dad, where's our tent?" Luckily a friend had spare room in their tent...so all was not lost. Zeb had the time of his life playing in the creek, playing in the dirt, playing ball - basically just playing to his heart's content. Bryan also had fun trying to keep up with Zeb! They both came home covered in dirt and smelling like a campfire. Both very good signs that they had a fantastic time!

That Saturday we had a special visit from our lawyer. Bryan's brother Trevor used working on our settlement case from the accident as an excuse to bring his family up to spend the day with us. Love having lawyers in the family! Not only can we trust them completely, but it sure makes visits more pleasant. The weather was still gloomy so we mostly played outside on the grass instead of spending the entire time in the pool as planned.

Bryan may have gotten a little zealous while playing t-ball with the boys...although to be fair we (Melanie and I) had sent the boys out to tackle Uncle Trevor and Bryan just couldn't resist getting in on the fun!

Max thought the hoppity ball would be the perfect weapon/shield...until Zeb fought back.

 Gang up on Uncle Trevor!
That night we made homemade pizzas to feed our crew and the missionaries (it was a raving success - in fact my pizzas have been praised ever since getting the crust recipe from my Aunt Jacque!), and feasted on a plethora of desserts. We had red velvet cake pops (thanks Melanie!), cookies, ice cream, popsicles...too much to even remember.

Monday we headed down south to Ponto Beach to meet up with most of the Downs family (not everyone could come...so we missed those who weren't there but had a blast with those that were!) for a super fun day! We got there close to 10 and stayed until about 4:30 - and spent a good portion of that time in the water. The temperatures were perfect in and out of the water and fun was had by all. There was a lot of throwing rocks (a favorite past time of the younger crowd), boogie boarding and surfing, getting towed in by the lifeguards after getting caught in the riptide - twice - (ahem, Ericka!), body surfing, jumping over waves, running away from waves, building sand castles/ridges/towers, getting buried in the sand, eating a delicious lunch of brauts and hot dogs...and the list goes on and on.

Notice the arms preparing to launch the rocks...all while jumping over the waves! That takes talent.

 Living the care-free life!

Run away!

One of my favorite moments of the day was when Abigail grabbed my hand and pulled me down to the water. In the past she did all in her power to stay away from the water, but this time she chose to go in. She had so much fun jumping over and running from the waves! In fact, she liked it almost as much as she loves covering herself in sand. It really makes a day at the beach much more fun when you aren't afraid of the water. Now we can all play together!
