Awesome August

Our Awesome August started out with bubbles. Since school was postponed due to smoke from a local fire, the big kids got to join us for the preschool playtime at our clubhouse. We always enjoy this activity, watching all the neat things that can be done with bubbles.
One of the highlights is getting to be inside the bubbles.

Lizzie was so brave this time! This is the third time we've attended this particular activity and it was also the first time Liz chose to be inside the bubble. Good times!

August also means that we get to celebrate Oliver!! He turned 1 and was definitely ready for it. At his scheduled doctor appointment, we found out that Oliver officially weighed 15 pounds, which put him only slightly below the growth charts. Making progress! He is growing taller faster than he can put on weight, so he was right around the 10th percentile on the height chart. He was wearing size 6-9 month clothes and size 2 shoes. We didn't even know shoes were made that small! Because Oliver is growing (slowly, but surely) and is developing as he should be the doctor is no longer concerned about his low weight. Oliver started walking in July and finally decided to learn how to come down the stairs - he had been going up since the spring time but refused to climb back down. He laughs and laughs, babbles occasionally (with so many older siblings, who needs to talk?), and gets into more things than we could imagine.

Happy Birthday Oliver!! We spent his birthday at our ward beach day. By the time we got back home, we were all a little tired and more than a little sunburned. **We weren't the only ones. Our sacrament meeting the next morning looked like everyone had applied shiny red makeup. It was very obvious who had attended the festivities the day before** Oliver had just enough energy to open gifts.

We saved his cake for the next day after church.

He enjoyed it in his typical fashion...all over every part of him.
We are so blessed to have Oliver in our family!

Awesome August continued with our back to school fashion show. A few highlights...

The first day of school finally arrived! The smoke had cleared enough for the air quality to be passable. The school implemented "inclement weather days" which essentially means that the kids stay indoors as much as possible.
Zeb was excited to have 2 teachers for 5th grade this year (Ms. Danielson and Mr Stamper). Abby was nervous and excited to start 2nd grade (Mrs. Sears). and Maggie was over the moon to be starting kindergarted (Mr. Cornejo).
Zeb was thrilled to see all his school friends again (so much so, that he didn't want us to wait with him until it was time to go in to the classrooms - a huge step in the right direction compared to years past). Abigail was still nervous, so she was glad to have parental company while waiting to find friends in her class. Maggie would have been just fine on her own, had we had confidence that she would remember the correct classroom and line.

Lizzie couldn't be left out, so we packed her a lunch to bring along on our walk to school. It was a bit of an adjustment for those left behind, but life soon worked itself out and we got into a routine.

Aunt Melanie transformed their upstairs loft into a climbing wall. Being invited over to test out the wall made our day.

So much fun!! Entertainment for hours for all ages. Brilliant work Aunt Melanie.

Abby was chosen as star student! She got to complete a poster all about her and had special jobs in the classroom.
We're proud of the children and all the efforts they put into being their best self.
