Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween! Halloween is one of our favorite holidays. For me, at least, it brings wonderful memories of planning for the best costume ever - which was a requirement for Great-Grandma Sagers' annual Halloween party. Nothing beats getting together as a family to celebrate some of the more spooky things. You know...like pumpkin pie, Gma's sugar cookies tied to a string (the occasional string stuck on a tooth), basement spook alley, dinner in a pumpkin, and fun decorations. Sadly, we had to do without the Sagers party this year (very sad about the no pumpkin pie!!). We tried a few other things to help us feel the holiday spirit! First, Zeb and I went to a pumpkin patch for our weekly playgroup. Zeb had never been to one before so it was incredible in his eyes. One of his favorite activities at the patch was climbing on the pumpkins...not really sure that he was supposed to be doing that, but you try stopping him. He also loved chasing the animals in the petting zoo area...also something he wasn't supposed to be doing. I'm seeing a trend here - anyone else? He also enjoyed jumping in the bouncy house - with the other children I might add, we're making excellent progress!!! - and going on a ride that resembles the teacups at Disneyland all by himself! Well, he wasn't really by himself, there were two other children in the cup with him. No adults, though. The next night (Friday) we went to our Ward Halloween Party. There was a costume parade, chili cook-off, dessert contest, trunk-or-treating, and so much fun! The men were in charge of the chili and the women were in charge of the desserts. Considering Bryan's busy schedule, we choose to participate with a dessert...see a picture below.
It's called "Kitty Litter Cake". Doesn't it look delicious? Click here for the recipe. It is actually quite tasty if you can get past the appearance. It kind of reminds me of a certain batch of sloppy joe's made by Phil a few years back. If you haven't heard the story, try adding green food coloring to your next batch of sloppy joe's and enjoy! Let's just say it's much easier to eat with your eyes closed...
Zeb didn't cooperate any time we tried to take a picture! Someone in our ward got a really cute one, so hopefully we'll get a copy of it soon. The green hair makes a perfect addition to the pumpkin suit...don't you think?
Due to a few things, Zeb was the only one with a real costume this year. I was a BYU fanatic and Bryan was a working parent (we know...very original...). Anyway, during the trunk-or-treat Zeb was much more interested in running around screaming than the candy. (He's had a cough for the past couple of days so the screaming did wonders for his poor throat) We didn't mind so much, until we noticed that he was minus one shoe. After walking around the entire parking lot trying to retrace our steps we had to give up. Next time our goal is to make it through the evening without any casualties!
