Falling into Fall

October means it is officially okay to dress up all we want! Abigail started things off with a bang by putting on several costumes at once when we started getting our holiday decorations out.
I guess she just couldn't decide which she wanted to wear first and thought, "Why not wear them all at once?!"

October was also a time to tackle Elizabeth and get some smiles.
Can we take a minute to just admire Maggie's bedhead? I promise we brush her hair...

The kids are not very good at taking turns with little sis and constantly bicker and banter over whose turn it is to play with her.

 What happy siblings!

We had an official "walk to school" day in October and a local sports team mascot made an appearance. Abigail was excited to be included in the picture with the mascot (Thunder) and the principle.
I know I've said it before, but we really love being able to walk to school every day.

While the older siblings are at school, Maggie gets to have some play time. Once a month our association puts on a preschool playtime at our clubhouse. The kids get some snacks and get to do a craft. This time Maggie got to decorate a pumpkin and write her name on a leaf.

Amazing penmanship from a 2-yr old! Hehe. She had great fun crafting and playing with friends.

Just an example of Zeb's schoolwork.
We are still working on penmanship, but it is improving as it should be. He is a really great student!

More fun times were had a Knott's Berry Farm.
Lizzie is still not quite sure what to make of excitement, but she is very observant and enjoys watching the world around her.

Zeb and Abby are the best big brother and sister to help Maggie go on some rides for the first time! (Not this one in particular...she'd been on it before...but it's the only picture we had to represent the day.)

October birthdays are a big deal in our house...
Abigail chose to share some homemade donuts for our family birthday dinner. She absolutely fell in love with her new costume and refused to take it off the entire night.
She was excited to share the day with Gpa and Gma Downs giving their mission farewell testimonies (they were preparing to leave for their mission in Mexico) in church and having all the family (aunts, uncles, cousins...the whole she-bang) sing a special musical number. Abby was especially excited that she got to join in the singing. (Zeb and Bryan also sang while I played the piano). It was a wonderful Sabbath day!

Lizzie learned a new trick!
She found her toes and has had them in her mouth ever since. She also started rolling over! Big movement for our tiny girl!

We had some visitors! The Sagers kids (they are still in school, so they count as kids!) had Fall Break and decided to come pay us a visit.
The "mandatory" beach trip was made...with fun had by all (even though it was a colder-ish day). The waves were just right for the big kids to spend hours on the boogie boards, while the sand was just right for the littles to spend hours digging, moving, drawing, eating (YUCK!), and more.
The grown-ups split time between watching and playing.

 Good times and good memories!

Crazy hair day apparently also means crazy faces!

Maggie is going through a phase of wearing her "pretty dresses" every single day. She also likes to change them often...going back and forth between at least 2 every day. The phase has been going on for a month now and shows no signs of changing. Oh well. At least she is wearing clothes.

Fits right in with the foliage!

Super fun day at school and they can't wait to do it again.

More costumes!
Zeb chose to be Batman for Halloween this year.

Elsa and Dorothy made an appearance.

Yukon Cornelius and the Abominable Snowman...

...and Snow White rounded out the troops. We had a fun, yet blisteringly hot time at our ward party. It was held outside (to lessen clean up?) and it just so happened that the temperatures were soaring that day. That's what we get for living in So Cal.

All set to go out trick-or-treating in our neighborhood! Maggie and Lizzie made it around the culdesac at the end of our street, then came home to help hand out candy. Zeb lasted for a few streets before he came back - saying he wore the wrong shoes (flip flops were obviously not the right choice, but what can you do when you decide to ignore your parent's advice?!) but didn't want to trade shoes and go back out. Abigail surprised us by lasting the longest and had fun going through a haunted house and lording her huge stash over her brother. I loved handing out candy! We had just the right amount of visitors to go through our candy bowl. Much improved over the years past.

The end of Halloween means the end of the bush!

Ideas for next year?! Oh boy...
